Sri Lanka invited India to bat after they won the toss.  Sri Lankan bowlers dominated from the very first first ball of the innings. India seemed to be coasting along towards a target of 160. Yuvraj struggled big time, and all the gains accrued by Kohli were wasted. The in-form batsman was starved of strike as Yuvi and Dhoni failed to put bat on ball. Rahane fell cheaply, Rohit and Kohli consolidated but the big finish never came.

Ever since Yuvraj Singh ate up some crucial deliveries, India were always short of a par score on a very good batting surface. Mohit Sharma got a wicket with his first ball and removed Kusal Perera. Dilshan steadied the ship for a while with Mahela before throwing his wicket away.

Sangakkara combined well with Mahela at the crease and just when the match was swinging in Sri Lanka's favour, the latter hit one straight to the fielder to bring India back into the game. Thirimanne struggled for a while and raised hopes of a Indian comeback but Sangakkara held his nerve and saved his best for the final of the tournament and indeed he has signed off in style with Mahela.

Previously South Africa have won the toss and they elected to bat first. Bhuvneshwar has done the first break-through for India to remove Quinton de Kock in the very first over. But South Africa played well after the early blow and they scored 106 runs from the last 10 overs. India had one average day with the ball, and that has come in a knock-out match. Barring Ashwin, the other spinners struggled, particularly Amit Mishra. Faf du Plessis led from the front, with a blistering innings. JP Duminy held the batting, after a slow start and David Miller was in fine form towards the end. Ashwin bowled well for his three wickets.

In the chase Indian openers Rohit and Rahane given a good start for India. They put South Africa under pressure with some aggression at the top and never allowed the bowlers to settle. Faf du Plessis was forced to bowl four different bowlers first up. Rohit was the first to be dimissed by Hendricks before Rahane threw his wicket away. However, Kohli anchored the innings and allowed Yuvraj to take his time. The latter also hit some vital blows but was dismissed at the fag end looking for some big hits. Raina joined Kohli and batted with freedom. He scored heavily on the on-side and turned the match in India’s favour taking Parnell for 17 in the 17th over. The equation was down to 23 off 18 and in the end, Kohli ensured that India won comfortably with 6 wickets even though South Africa forced the game into the last over. A fantastic game in the end! A fitting semifinal between two quality sides.
