Fantastic performance by Brendon McCullum. He has single-handedly given Otago an easy win. After putting up a good performance with the ball, Otago were given a moderate target to chase. They started poorly losing quick wickets. However, once McCullum came on to bat, there was no looking back as he hit some lusty blows to get to a magnificient 83 not out. He was supported first by Rutherford (25) and then by de Boorder (30*) as Otago started their World T20 league campaign on a winning note.
Earlier, the Wolves had to rely on skipper Misbah-ul-Haq to put together a rescue act, after he won the toss and decided to bat first. James McMillan got rid of openers Ammar Mahmood and Ali Waqas with just 12 runs on board. Asif Ali too didn’t last too long, falling to James Neesham after going for a big shot.
Faisalabad Wolves 34/3.
Misbah (46) walked in to put together a 61-run partnership with Khurram Shehzad (27). The former took his time to settle down at the crease, before going after Nathan McCullum in over No.13, hitting two sixes and a four. But when Shehzad hit Ian Butler straight to Neil Wagner at mid-off, Misbah voiced his displeasure at the choice of stroke.
Butler returned in a subsequent over to hit Misbah’s stumps, as the Wolves lost their fifth wicket with 108 runs on board. It was the wicket the Otago Volts needed, as the tail managed to take the total to 139/8.
